Nursing & Phlebotomy
Explore Your Healthcare Curiosity. Early.

If you’ve always dreamed of becoming a nurse and want to jump-start your career while still in high school, the Rural U Nursing Pathway is the perfect opportunity for you. In partnership with the University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK), this program offers a direct path to nursing school with a unique mix of college-level courses and real-world experience.
As part of the pathway, you’ll take general education and nursing classes and earn 2 college credits for the Fundamentals of Nursing (NUR101) course. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience during a one-semester phlebotomy course (MLT103), where you’ll complete an internship at Houlton Regional Hospital, shadowing different departments in the lab. By the end, you’ll be certified as a Phlebotomy Technician.
Once you complete the program, you’ll have the option to attend either UMFK or UMPI’s nursing programs as a second-year student, thanks to the college credits you’ve earned.
This program is available to seniors only due to age requirements, but it’s a game-changer for anyone looking to advance their nursing career while still in high school. If you’re ready to start your journey into nursing today, this is your chance. Are you ready to take the first step?
