Firefighting

Step into the boots of a firefighter and prepare to take on the heat!

In this hands-on, high-intensity program, you’ll gain the critical skills and knowledge needed for real-world firefighting operations.

From fire behavior and building construction to ladder operations and search-and-rescue, you’ll train in the core techniques that firefighters use daily. Learn to don and doff bunker gear and SCBA like a pro, master radio communications, and navigate the demands of forcible entry, ventilation, and water supply operations. You’ll even take on live fire suppression, including structure, vehicle, and propane fires.

With approval from a fire department Chief, students can earn State of Maine certification to conduct interior firefighting operations—making you ready to answer the call.

Beyond the basics, students can earn additional industry-recognized certifications, including OSHA 10, Wildland Fire Suppression (S-130/S-190) for in- and out-of-state deployment, and First Aid/CPR—essential skills for emergency response careers. Those who go above and beyond can also develop advanced capabilities in vehicle extrication, cold water rescue, fire pump operations, and low-angle rescue.

Whether you see yourself as a full-time firefighter, emergency responder, or pursuing a career in fire science, this program is your first step into a field where bravery meets skill—and every day is a chance to make a difference.
